How Do You Say El Burro Esparkalo With a British Accent?

How Do You Say El Burro Esparkalo With a British Accent?

Yeah, we know… it’s been a long time. So to make it up to you we have some very special guests on this show. Steve and Tim are joined in the Sparkle Donkey Tequila Lab in SODO by our host, Stefan Schachtell, and the singular talents of Niko Moreno of Sounder at Heart and Matt Pentz of The Athletic.

We talk about the state of the team leading into the Portland match, including recent form, implications for a quiet transfer window, the new ownership group, and more. We then look to the South and make some predictions for the match. We discuss the nascent Schmetzer Out phenomenon, and give our impressions of the overall business, team management, and development strategies of the Front Office.

We also drink a very reasonable and safe amount of tequila. (drink responsibly, always have a designated driver, for real).

Finally, your listener questions round us out.

We All Hate Portland. I WANT SOME BUTTS!

We All Hate Portland. I WANT SOME BUTTS!

Welp, that happened. But all is not lost — we still have a shot at clinching silverware that matters — the Cascadia Cup — when we head to ‘Scum in August. Meanwhile, we have a lot to talk about — Steve, Tim, and Andrew cut it up and leave (almost) nothing on the cutting room floor in our first formal multi-channel live stream.

What were the factors that impacted our performance? Offensive Depth? New Turf? Depth? Portland’s mad counter? Depth? Confusion and inaccuracy in the midfield? International break? Fragile player health? Depth?

Schweinsteiger's Seals Are Loose

Schweinsteiger's Seals Are Loose

It isn’t the Yanks Abroad show yet — we talk a little bit about WWC and the experience, then dig right into all the action we missed while we were getting all the sun, all the baguettes, and all the wine. Vancouver, NYCFC, Columbus, and Atlanta brought us to second place, and extend our at-home unbeaten streak to 10. We cover all the bad fouls, bad refs, young kids, amazing goals, general MLS discussion, NWSL TV deal, and more in today’s show with Steve, Tim, and Andrew.

In our last show before notre voyages en France, Tim, Steve, and Andrew cut it up while we watch the opening round of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. We talk about WWC & the multiple questionable VAR penalty calls, the general state of the Men’s National Team, the Bruin injury, implications for the Sounders, and more! We can’t get enough of Mitch McConnell’s fave whiskey, and the Macho Man Randy Savage is a better soccer analyst than any of us.

Cover Your Cups

Open Cup was a blast, even if we didn’t get the result we wanted. Steve, Tim, Nate, and Andrew cover the first week or so of the Women’s World Cup, including the smashing USA debut vs. Thailand.

We move to the state of the Tacoma Defiance, and how we think that might intersect with the US Open Cup result. As usual, lots of chatter and a great time had by all.

One more show to come this week, and then some of us will be headed to the last two weeks of WWC in France!

Next Question.

Next Question.

Full show coming Saturday, but we wanted to get some audio from Andrew Hammond sports writer for the Tacoma News Tribune. (Support local media.) Andrew threw a couple of questions at Brian Schmetzer, and also got some time with Harry Shipp after the Sounders fell to the Timbers in USOC play on Wednesday.

Enjoy, and see you on Saturday for the full show!

Steve, Andrew, and Nate from Tacoma were joined by Dave and Carol of @HandsFreeFooty (who just had a great show with Alexi Lalas, BTW) to talk a little about Tacoma soccer & Sounders between last week’s double-header of matches with Reign FC and Tacoma Defiance. Reign performed and Defiance #DidNotLoseDooDooDooDoo, but we didn’t know that second bit just yet.

We expound on the quality of each of the teams, what we can look forward to for USOC, and talk about the matches of the prior week. We also have thoughts on what folks might do to get their footy fix in the drought of Sounders home matches between now and 6/29.

X Gonna Give It To Ya

X Gonna Give It To Ya

Welcome back! On the hottest day of the year so far, Steve and Tim bid a warm and sticky welcome to new cast member Andrew Hammond! https://twitter.com/AHammTNT! We chat about the draw v. Minnesota, make strong Muppet comparisons, look ahead to Houston at home, and chat about UEFA Champions League by way of listerner questions!

Oh, and we seriously over-analyze the implications of signing Joevin Jones and Xavier Arreaga (who Steve keeps calling Aguerra).
